Multilingual groups in Töölö

Participation in the following groups does not necessarily require any Finnish language skills. Most groups do not operate during summer. Please contact groups directly for more information.

CHILDREN’S GROUPS AT PUNAVUORI RECEPTION CENTRE

Kids Club from Red Cross takes children to outings and places of interest to children every other Saturday 1:30-3:30 pm. English speaking volunteers are welcome. For more information, please contact spr.lastenryhma@gmail.com

Punavuori group meets every Tuesday 6pm-7pm (Uudenmaankatu 24). Children’s groups’ activities include games, drawing, visits to near-by play grounds and at the centre.

WOMEN’S GROUP ”PUNAHILKAT” AT PUNAVUORI RECEPTION CENTRE  (female volunteers only)

The group meets at Punavuori Reception Centre (Uudenmaankatu 24) every other Wednesday at 6 pm. They organise different kind of activities to the women residents of the centre.

MEN’S GROUP AT PUNAVUORI RECEPTION CENTRE (male volunteers only)

Provisionally the men’s group meets in every Friday  at the centre (Uudenmaankatu 24).  

Group provides variety to the everyday routines of the male customers of all ages at the reception centre. The aim is to get to know Finland and Helsinki in a relaxed atmosphere often in the context of sports and culture. The language of the group is English.

METSÄLÄ DETENTION CENTRE VISITS

The group visits the Metsälä detention centre on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteering with the group requires completion of an introductory training course and long-term commitment to attending visits. More information: spr.dcvolunteers@gmail.com (in English)

FUND RAISING

Anyone with a photo ID can take part in Nälkäpäivä/Hunger Day (in mid-September each year) - or any other fund raising event or campaign -  by enlisting as a collector with the branch (susanna.m.rantanen@gmail.com). We will send you information on the fund raisers, and where and when to pick up your collector’s gear (Red Cross vest and the collecting tin).
