Welcome to the Finnish Red Cross Youth Assembly and the General Assembly 2023!

The National Youth Committee of the Red Cross and the young people in the Lapland district warmly welcome members and volunteers under the age of 29 of the Finnish Red Cross to the Youth Assembly and the General Assembly in the Santasport Lapland Sports Centre in Rovaniemi on 17-19 March 2023!

The event is open to all those who would like to meet other young Red Cross actors and spend the weekend enjoying a pleasant programme. In particular, we would like to encourage young people who are interested in positions of trust in our organisation and in influencing the future of the Finnish Red Cross.

Registration for the event ended on 11 December 2022. Please contact the event organiser if you have not registered for the event but would like to attend. We cannot guarantee your participation, as we will process such requests on a case-by-base basis, taking Santasport’s booking situation into account. You can find the event organiser’s contact information further down this page.

Programme

During the weekend, the Finnish Red Cross Youth Assembly will be organised in accordance with the Youth Assembly work instructions. The Youth Assembly is a dedicated influencing channel for young members of the Red Cross, in which young people in our organisation can participate in the preparation of the next policy and prepare for the Finnish Red Cross Assembly in Joensuu in June 2023.

Training and workshops in which we will strengthen the competence and courage of the actors under the age of 29 in our organisation to serve in positions of trust in the Finnish Red Cross, such as branch boards, will also be offered in connection with the Youth Assembly. The programme will also include more relaxed activities and spending time together!

Schedule (updated March 2023)

You can arrive at the venue on Friday evening or Saturday morning. The event programme will end with snacks on Sunday, but you can also start on your way home earlier on Sunday. The Youth Assembly will start on Saturday after lunch and end with lunch on Sunday, which is why we recommend that all participants with voting rights be present at least for this time period.

The event's updated schedule and program can be found in the event's Google Drive folder.

Travel (updated March 2023)

The event organiser is not responsible for purchasing travel tickets for the participants, even though we reimburse travel expenses according to the practice explained below (see Travel expenses). However, your local Red Cross district may purchase travel tickets for the participants from its region, so please contact the employee in charge of youth activities in your district  as needed. If you do not know who to contact in your district, you can message the event organiser, whose contact information is available at the bottom of this page.

We will arrange shared transport for the event participants from Rovaniemi Railway Station and airport to Santasport on Friday 17 March and Saturday 18 March. Additionally, we will arrange shared transport from Santasport to Rovaniemi Railway Station and airport on Sunday 19 March. The shared transport is free of charge for the participants, but you must sign up for it in advance through a questionnaire that will be emailed to you in February.

Updated additional information about the event's shared transportation can be found in the participants' March 2023 info package, which can be found in the event's Google Drive folder.

If you travel to Rovaniemi by another train, bus or plane and need help with getting to the venue, please contact the event organiser as soon as possible. Please note that we will not reimburse taxi rides (see Travel expenses).

Participation fee

The participation fee for the event is EUR 50. The fee includes meals, programme and accommodation from Friday to Sunday. The fee is the same even if you only participate for part of the weekend. If the participant is not staying at the sports centre, the participation fee is EUR 20. The participation fee is the same for Red Cross employees and volunteers.

As districts place their representatives in the Youth Assembly, many districts may cover the fees for the participation of representatives with voting rights. If you want to find out from your own district before you register, please contact the person responsible for youth activities. If you do not know who to ask, don’t hesitate to contact the event organiser whose contact information can be found on this page.

The headquarters will invoice the participation fee afterwards. If the district pays the participation fees of the participants in its region, an invoice is made to the district.

Travel expenses

The event organiser shall reimburse the participants' travel expenses by means of public transport in so far as the costs exceed EUR 50 per participant. Kilometre allowances or taxi journeys will not be reimbursed. If you are unable to use public transport or you need to travel by car for a part of the journey, you should favour carpool rides. For the use of your own car, we will reimburse half of the compensation in the state travel instructions (in 2022: 0.23 euros / kilometre). You must agree on car journeys longer than 100 kilometres per direction with the event organiser in advance.

Compensation for travel expenses can be applied for after the event through the M2 software. Instructions on how to use the system will be updated later in the attachments on this page. For the purpose of applying for compensation, all receipts and tickets must be kept.

Some districts may also reimburse the participants' share of the travel expenses of EUR 50 and coordinate the participants' travel arrangements in their own district jointly, so that the participants themselves do not have to purchase tickets for the event. To find out the practices of your own district, please contact the person responsible for youth activities or the event organiser.

Cancellation of registration

You can cancel your registration without charge until December 11th 2022. The cancellation must be submitted by e-mail to the event organiser whose contact information can be found on this page. Cancellations received after November will be handled case-specifically.
